More to Meat kicks off in 2023

More to Meat is back in 2023, and we’re putting locals at the centre stage of our campaign!

Check out our new TV commercial below and you might even see some familiar faces.

Throughout 2023, More to Meat will be bringing you the stories of locals who make up the 138,000 people working in Australia’s red meat processors.

A job in red meat processing provides a range of opportunities for a fulfilling career in your local town, and that's exactly what Kalani Moss and Thomas Irvine tell us about the benefits of their jobs in Casino and Toowoomba.

Meet Kalani

Kalani started with Casino Food Co-op more than two years ago and now works in quality assurance.

She said she’s benefitted from a range of opportunities working in red meat processing and her employer even supported her in undertaking university study.

Kalani told the More to Meat campaign that there is a lot more to the industry than people might think.

“I wish people knew the career options and opportunities involved in red meat processing. There are so many parts needed to deliver a final product.”

It’s an exciting time for Kalani, and we’re looking forward to seeing what else she gets involved in at Casino Co-op.

Meet Thomas

Thomas started with JBS Beef City in Toowoomba eight years ago and now works as a skilled Beef Boner.

He is participating in the More to Meat campaign to inform the community about the skills he’s learnt in red meat processing and how it’s helped him develop a long-term career.

Thomas told us before he started he was fresh out of high school and not sure what industry he wanted to work in.

He said starting a job at his local red meat processor gave him a strong work ethic which has carried over into other areas of his life.

“My job at JBS Beef City has helped me to save money and buy a house, which is very rewarding and humbling.”

Kalani and Thomas are just a few of the thousands of Australians, including farmers, truck drivers and retailers that work together to deliver high-quality red meat products around Australia and the world.

More to Meat will continue to highlight the important role that red meat processors play in regional communities across Australia.

Because a strong red meat processing industry means stronger communities.
