More to Meat in Tamworth
As we are sure you are aware, strong industries help regional communities to thrive, and in Tamworth, one of the strongest industries is red meat processing.
Thomas Foods International (TFI) – one of the two red meat processors in Tamworth – has been part of the community for years, and the business plays an essential role in supporting the local economy and jobs.
The company directly employs 975 people, including general labourers, meat slicers, tradies, and science-related jobs.
Working closely with farmers, TFI Tamworth processes, packages, and helps to deliver world-class red meat to stores across Australia, which eventually lands on family dinner tables.
TFI Tamworth joined the More to Meat campaign, run by the Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPC), to promote the opportunities in the industry.
One of the local employees recognised in the More to Meat campaign is Stephen Hatch, an Environmental Advisor, responsible for the plant’s wastewater treatment facility.
Between 2012 and 2022, Stephen combined this part-time work in the industry while he studied environmental sciences at the University of New England.
Stephen always knew there were jobs in red meat processing but was unaware at just how unique the industry really was, with niches such as his own job as an Environmental Advisor at Thomas Foods.
Stephen is passionate about the industry’s future, contributing to his own skills and ensuring families across Australia have access to high-quality foods.
Stephen is an example of the increasing opportunity for people with a university education, particularly in the sciences, in red meat processing.
Whether you’re interested in starting your career in the industry, or simply enjoying our delicious red meat products at home, supporting Australia’s red meat processing industry will help to create careers for the next generation, and help to keep regional communities strong.
